Surveillance and surveys will therefore be conducted in order to define the characteristics of the variants of interest detected in Africa.<\/p>\n<h2>Three areas of intervention<\/h2>\n<p>In support of the national structures tasked with managing epidemics, such as the various countries\u2019 operations centres for regulation and responses to sanitary and social emergencies (CORRUS), the \u2018Public health surveillance and epidemiological surveys\u2019 component of AFROSCREEN includes <strong>three areas of intervention<\/strong>, which will be implemented in the countries of the project:<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n        <\/section>\n\n    <!-----project count section------>\n\n    \n        <section class=\"project-count section-space\">\n\n              <div class=\"container\">\n\n                  <div class=\"row m-0\">\n\n                      \n                            <div class=\"ml-auto mr-auto col-lg-12 col-6 mb-4 mb-lg-0\">\n\n                                <div class=\"project-count-item\">\n\n                                    <h3 class=\"count\" id=\"number1\">12<\/h3>\n\n                                    <h2>Number of training sessions for epidemiological teams held since July 2021<\/h2>\n\n\n                                <\/div>\n\n                            <\/div>\n\n                            \n                  <\/div>\n\n              <\/div>\n\n        <\/section>\n\n        \n\n<!-----action accordion section------>\n\n\n<section class=\"action-acordian container pt-4 pb-5 \">\n\n<div class=\"custom-container\">\n\n    <div class=\"accordion-container\">\n\n\n                      \n\n    <div class=\"set\">\n\n      <a class=\"acord_flex\" href=\"javascript:void(0)\">\n\n          Describe the SARS-CoV-2 infection trends in terms of time, place and people by setting up sentinel surveillance\n          <span class=\"sr-only sr-only-focusable m-0\"><\/span>\n\n          <span><i class=\"fa fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\n      <\/a>\n\n      <div class=\"content\">\n\n          <div class=\"row m-0\">\n                            <div class=\" p-0 col-12 \" >\n                <p>The choice of five to ten epidemiological sentinel sites per country, in connection with the respective Ministries of Health, CORRUS and existing networks (hospitals, health centres) and the collection of daily data (number of suspected cases by age, sex, sentinel site), will enable a descriptive analysis in order to describe trends over time and provide early warning to the authorities in the event of outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation will be carried out in the event of a cluster comprising a significant number of secondary cases around an initial case of Covid-19 which may suggest an increased risk of transmission.<\/p>\n              <\/div>\n          <\/div>\n\n          <!--screen-reader-text-->\n\n          <p class=\"sr-only sr-only-focusable m-0\"><\/p>\n\n      <\/div>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n                      \n\n    <div class=\"set\">\n\n      <a class=\"acord_flex\" href=\"javascript:void(0)\">\n\n          Describe the clinical, biological and epidemiological characteristics of confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 VOIs\/VOCs by investigating those cases\n          <span class=\"sr-only sr-only-focusable m-0\"><\/span>\n\n          <span><i class=\"fa fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\n      <\/a>\n\n      <div class=\"content\">\n\n          <div class=\"row m-0\">\n                            <div class=\" p-0 col-12 \" >\n                <p>Once cases of SARS-CoV-2 VOIs\/VOCs are confirmed (by sequencing, PCR screening, or both), on-site or telephone investigation will enable the standardised data collection and detailed analysis of the clinical, biological and epidemiological characteristics of the confirmed cases of VOI\/VOC in each country of the project.<\/p>\n              <\/div>\n          <\/div>\n\n          <!--screen-reader-text-->\n\n          <p class=\"sr-only sr-only-focusable m-0\"><\/p>\n\n      <\/div>\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n                      \n\n    <div class=\"set\">\n\n      <a class=\"acord_flex\" href=\"javascript:void(0)\">\n\n          Study the transmission factors of the new SARS-CoV-2 variants through the prospective investigation of household contacts\n          <span class=\"sr-only sr-only-focusable m-0\"><\/span>\n\n          <span><i class=\"fa fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\n      <\/a>\n\n      <div class=\"content\">\n\n          <div class=\"row m-0\">\n                            <div class=\" p-0 col-12 \" >\n                <p><strong>The epidemiological investigation<\/strong> will focus on household contacts of confirmed primary cases of SARS-CoV-2 VOIs\/VOCs. Its aim is to determine the epidemiological parameters: secondary attack rate, reproduction number, serial interval, incubation period, duration of infectivity, proportion of asymptomatic individuals, case fatality rate, risk factors, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The method is that proposed in the WHO Household transmission investigation protocol<\/strong> for 2019-novel coronavirus infection, with follow-up of household cases for 28 days accompanied by PCR tests and serology.
