Martin Foudi Ma\u00efdadi presents the results of his study at the CPHIA 2023 conference<\/em><\/p>\n\n

From November 27 to 30, 2023, the third annual Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA 2023) was held in Lusaka, Zambia, under the theme “Breaking Barriers: Repositioning Africa in the Global Health Architecture”. The conference, organized by the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), addressed, among other things, pandemic preparedness and resilient financing mechanisms for Africa, fostering African-led innovation and advancing local production of vaccines, diagnostics and therapies, and strengthening equitable health systems. <\/p>\n\n

Four members of the AFROSCREEN network took part in CPHIA 2023: Dr Eric D’Ortenzio (principal investigator of the project), Pr Placide Mballa (head of the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health at INRB, in the Democratic Republic of Congo), Dr Gilles Cottrell (researcher for IRD MERIT at IRCB, in Benin) and M Martin Foudi Ma\u00efdadi (young researcher at CREMER, in Cameroon).<\/p>\n\n

From December 12 to 15, 2023, the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) held its sixth conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Laboratory professionals, researchers, policy makers, funders and industry partners gathered around the theme “Shaping laboratory systems and diagnostics services for the 21st<\/sup> Century: embracing the change”. AFROSCREEN partner M Martin Foudi Ma\u00efdadi took part in the event to highlight the work carried out as part of the project. <\/p>\n\n

Martin Foudi Ma\u00efdadi had the opportunity to present his study at both conferences, oral (for CPHIA 2023) and poster (for ASLM 2023) presentations, on the comparison of two PCR tests that are widely used in Africa for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 (DaAn Gene 2019 n-Cov and Cepheid Xpert xpress), during the Delta and Omicron waves in Yaound\u00e9, Cameroon. The performance of these tests was studied using over 150 sequences generated from all positive samples eligible for sequencing. <\/p>\n\n
