From syndromic to genomic, the SARS-CoV-2 surveillance system in Abidjan: Presentation of a poster at the Adelf-Epiter congress in Lomé

Dr Mathias Altmann, epidemiology coordinator for the ANRS | MIE AFROSCREEN project, and Dr Esther Konou, molecular biologist at Laboratoire BIOLIM in Togo, presented a poster entitled “Du syndromique au génomique, le dispositif de surveillance du SARS-CoV-2 à Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, juillet 2022” at the Adelf-Epiter congress held in Lomé (Togo) on March 15 and 16, 2023.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the AFROSCREEN project was set up to strengthen SARS-CoV-2 sequencing capacities and genomic surveillance in 13 African countries. In Côte d’Ivoire, the project was developed in Abidjan, based on a network of sentinel sites conducting influenza and SARS-Cov-2 surveillance. This poster describes the method used to set up this monitoring system, the results obtained, and proposes a list of recommendations on the organization of these sites, laboratory analyses, data management and the continuation of the project.
